Frontend Challenge 6 - Try not to cry

Jacob Hardbower

The realest challenge

The frontend team is an amazing group of people who care.

The word is devalued by overuse, but here's how I can see that you all care.

Each one of you is respectful — to each other, to our code, to our users, and to yourselves (though we could all work on this one). You don't belittle or gate-keep. You listen and collaborate.

Each one of you is passionate. You see the value in putting in effort, and you bring ideas to the table. You have goals and visions that you sacrifice time and energy to achieve.

Each one of you is empathetic. You engage in conversations with emotional intelligence — you don't treat communication as a transaction.

Each one of you is responsible. You have integrity and stand behind the things you say and do. You also have confidence because you do your best to fulfill your duties. Unfortunately, in the bad times, we always feel we could have done more, but we should carry that forward instead of dwelling on it.

All of these things swirl around and combine to influence how you participate at work and in your personal lives. The result is when people see the things you create, they can see that you care, and they appreciate it. The things you create are better, the collaborations you engage in are more fulfilling, and the pride you feel is hard-earned and deeply satisfying.

All I can hope is that, as a team and individuals, frontendies continue to care.

Actually, instead of just hoping, I have a unique opportunity to do something more.

FRONTEND CHALLENGE #6, BABY!

Never!
Stop!
Caring!

With love and admiration,
Jacob

P.S. If someone wants to continue FE challenges, please do. It takes energy though, so I won't blame you if you let it die here :)
